Date: Saturday January 21, 2012 - 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Location: Unitarian Church at 246 S. Church St., Grass Valley at corner of Walsh and S. Church. Lunch is included. It’ll be homemade soup, chili or veg chili with crusty bread.

January Jazz Camp is structured so that many levels co-exist with faculty guidance holding it together. Instrumentalists will need few basic scales under your fingers. More is better. Reading music or having a good ear are helpful as well. The Unitarian Church in Grass Valley is a lovely space. We'll start off by playing long tones together, then move on to the Blues form and jazz standards. It's great how people of all ages and levels can have a good time playing music together, with guidance.

To warm up, we’ll all play long tones together. Then we’ll focus on playing the Blues form and some jazz standards. You will learn beginning improvisation or develop your skills.

Initially, we’ll use the main chapel of the church for meeting as a whole group, and then split up into three combos, according to your level. All instrumentalists and vocalists and all ages are welcome.
