JAZZ CAMP 2008 FACULTY MEMBER

Bob Claire

Bob earned his B.A. in Music at U.C. Berkeley, where he was a member of a jazz quintet which won 1st prize at the National Collegiate Jazz Festival. The quintet then toured Africa for the U.S. Department of State. He has taught Jazz theory, arranging and ensemble at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, as well as in the U.C. Summer Music Program, and has been on the Faculty at Stanford University as Lecturer in Baroque flute.

Here's what Bob has to say:

I think jazz is one of the great musics in the world because it combines both the spontaneity and imagination needed for improvisation with an intellectual side that goes as deep as you want to go, especially regarding harmony and theory. Jazz has it all!
